Wisconsin Beef Council kicks off second annual Best Burger Contest

(WFRV) — Food enthusiasts in Wisconsin can now cast their votes for the state’s best all-beef burger as the Wisconsin Beef Council hosts its second annual Best Burger Contest.

The contest runs from Feb. 21 to March 21, allowing fans to nominate their favorite beef burger from any Wisconsin restaurant through the Wisconsin Beef Council’s website.

In early April, the council will announce the “Elite Eight” restaurants with the most nominations. A secret panel of judges will then visit each establishment to taste and evaluate the top contenders.

Judging criteria include taste (50 points), appearance (30 points), proper doneness (10 points), overall enjoyment (10 points), and atmosphere (up to 5 points).

Eligible burgers must be made from 100% beef, though ingredients like spices and vegetables can be added. Each entry must feature a formed ground beef patty served on a bun or other bread product, such as biscuits, focaccia, or tortillas. Toppings, condiments, and sauces must be placed between the bun or bread slices or served open-faced on a bread product.

Last year’s contest winner, Pickles Bar & Grill, experienced a 530% increase in burger sales from April 1 to June 1, 2024, after being named one of the Elite Eight.
