(WFRV) – Authorities in the central part of Wisconsin are warning people of a hazardous part of ice on a lake.
According to the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, three snowmobiles went through the ice on a particular part of Beaver Dam Lake over the course of a 24-hour period. Authorities say an area of the lake north/northeast of Evergreen Island was identified as ‘particularly dangerous’.
Residents reportedly told deputies that the area had recently been open water and a small layer of ice was concealed by recent snowfall.

On February 15 authorities responded to the report of two snowmobiles that went through the ice. There were no reported injuries from this incident.
One day later on February 16, authorities responded to a report of a a single snowmobile that went through the ice in the same area. Officials say the rider was picked up by the Beaver Dam Fire Department’s hovercraft and was brought to shore.
The sheriff reminded people that there could be more unsafe locations on the lake, but should check with the local community to learn of hazardous areas.
This should not be interpreted as being the only unsafe location on the lake, but rather to try and prevent further incidents at the same location. Local bait shops are typically good sources of information as to ice depth, and hazardous areas. No ice is 100% safe.
