REPORTS: Packers quarterback Jordan Love agrees to historic 4-year contract extension with team

(WFRV) – Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love has reportedly agreed to a historic contract extension with the Green Bay Packers, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The $220 million deal is a four-year contract extension with $155 million guaranteed and an NFL-record $75 million signing bonus. Along with Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow and Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence, Love will become the highest-paid QB in NFL history on an average annual value basis, all three at $55 million per season.

Multiple Packers fans at training camp had said they were hoping for a deal to get done soon. Love had been holding out of drills during negotiations, and it is unclear how the team will bring him back into the fold for the preseason.

Drafted in 2020, questions arose about Love’s timeline as a starter, as former Packer Aaron Rodgers was still the starter at the time, going on to win back-to-back MVPs after Love was drafted.

However, with Rodgers subsequently being traded to the New York Jets in 2023, Love was thrust into the starting role and while the team struggled at first, he quickly became a star.

In his first year as the starter, Love finished second in the NFL in touchdown passes (32) and seventh in passing yards (4,159) while leading the league’s youngest team to the playoffs. Love led the Packers to a demolition of the Dallas Cowboys in a road wild-card win.

And while the Packers bowed out in the divisional round to the eventual NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers, Love took an inexperienced team to the brink of victory in a road playoff game with just 19 games of NFL starter experience of his own.

Love and the Packers will kick off their preseason in Cleveland on Saturday, Aug. 10 at 3:25 p.m. against the Browns. The regular season opener the Packers is set for a historic game against the Philadelphia Eagles in São Paulo, Brazil on Friday, Sept. 6.
