Kids get the attention of Wisconsin police officers using “savvy marketing” at root beer stand

ELM GROVE, Wis. (WFRV) – Officers in Waukesha County stopped to investigate a sign at a local root beer stand, only to find it was a “savvy marketing tool” used by the kids to raise funds for the department.

According to a social media post from the Elm Grove Police Department, officers stopped to investigate a sign in Watertown Plank Road and Grandview Drive. The sign said “Ice Cold Beer,” but in small lettering before beer, the kids put “Root.”

The kids were attempting to raise funds to donate to the Elm Grove Fire Department and the Elm Grove Police Department, and the two officers who responded to the scene got a good laugh at it.

“No, the kids were not selling beer,” said the social media post. “Further investigation revealed the word “root” written on the sign. Lieutenant Riley and School Resource Officer Weber shared a cold cup of root beer from the stand.”

The Elm Grove Police Department finished the social media post thanking the children for their support in raising funds.
