MARQUETTE COUNTY, Mich. (WFRV) – Two parents in the Upper Peninsula were arrested on Tuesday following an investigation into child abuse allegations obtained by Child Protective Services.
The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office sent deputies to the home to talk to the homeowners, identified as 57-year-old Dr. Colin Irish and his wife, 49-year-old Carrie Irish.

The couple had allegedly locked their 10-year-old special needs son in a closet for several hours a day over several months, along with other allegations.
The release added that the two forced their child to sleep wearing only underwear, without providing a mattress, blanket or pillow as the child was forced to sleep on the closet floor.
According to the release, the closet also had no heating vents or windows; additionally, the closet doors were reportedly lined with plastic sheet panels, and linoleum floors and the doors were locked from the outside to prohibit the child’s exit.
The child reportedly urinated and defecated multiple times, being forced to clean it which left a strong cleaning solution odor. Three minor children were removed from the home, and the 10-year-old was taken to a hospital to be treated for possible frostbite on their feet.
Both Dr. Colin and Carrie Irish were arrested on Wednesday for second-degree child abuse, punishable by up to ten years in prison.
