The New Year’s Day parade kicked off around 1 p.m., featuring attendees in full costumes to celebrate the new year. The tradition started several decades ago.
“We built an 8-foot snowman on the back of our pickup truck and went through the parade with snowmobiles and I twirled a baton,” Parade Captain Christine Tierney Woldt said. “And then, the next year, they said ‘why don’t you do it again?'”
Woldt said it’s been 42 years, and she handed off the parade captain baton to somebody else who will carry on the tradition in 2026.
