De Pere community rallies to bring 12-year-old cancer patient home from Florida

DE PERE, Wis. (WFRV) – The De Pere community is rallying behind a 12-year-old girl as her family works to bring her home following cancer treatment in Florida.

Hadley Baker, a seventh-grade student in the Unified School District of De Pere, has been battling rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare soft tissue cancer, for more than 18 months.

According to a social media page updating Baker’s medical journey, she traveled to Florida for surgery earlier this week. Paul Steeno of Local 5 spoke with Hadley’s mother, Lauren Baker, on Jan. 7. Lauren said the surgery was part of a clinical trial.

However, Hadley’s condition has “deteriorated dramatically in the last 24 hours,” according to a social media post from Thursday. The family is seeking donations to cover the cost of an air ambulance to bring Hadley and Lauren back to Green Bay.

Supporters are encouraged to donate via Lauren Baker’s verified Venmo account, @Lauren-Baker-137. Donors are advised to confirm the account details as scammers have reportedly created similar fake accounts.

Despite her health struggles, the community has rallied to create special experiences for Hadley, who received a varsity letter as a member of the school’s basketball team.

The family also has a GoFundMe page raising money for medical costs. Because GoFundMe transfers take two to five business days, the family is prioritizing Venmo donations for immediate needs.
